I wanted to find out if its necessary for a teacher to have English as their first language in order to teach a class. The main question I wanted to answer was how would a English as a second language teacher impact their students' experience in the classrooms. My personal thoughts at the beginning of this project was that people would not easily agree that a ESL teacher was just as good as a teacher whose first language was English. I say this because I thought that because of communication barriers and cultural conflicts there would negative feedback in how the students experience the class. I think this topic is important because our education is crucial, and anything that might be affecting the quality of it should be taken into consideration and looked into. My findings matter because we can either scratch off this topic of the list of reasons as to why our education system is getting worse and focus on other areas that might be affecting our education system, or if I find my answer to be negative maybe we can focus on the topic in detail. Overall education is important, therefore my findings are crucial to see the affects that it might place on the education system.

What I have come to find in my research is that there is little difference in the quality of a students' experience when it comes to a teacher whose second language is English and their teaching style. When the teacher understand their limitations and understands how to change their weaknesses into strengths by using different methods in teaching; that is why there may be no difference in quality. For example from the information that I have gathered from my interviews and observation I have noticed that the teacher not only explains what he is teaching through speaking but he provides visual aids through his power points. Also the content that he provides isn't squished together in one lesson. Some teachers will try to shove as much content as possible in efforts to move through the chapters smoothly; but they do not have the extra challenge of the language barrier, so they could afford to move at a faster pace. I think Mr. Varona understand that he can only communicate so much content in one classroom verbally and visually without confusing his students; so that's why he provides less content. Even though it might seem he is providing content, what we learn is still a lot. He gives us a lot of projects that we have to do on our own and involve real life situations. Overall I think Mr. Varona knows that he has some communication barriers when it comes to teaching in the classroom; but he avoids them by using multiple methods of teaching, and provides a variety of resources to go to when there is any confusion regarding an assignment.

In doing my research from reading articles and observing and interviewing; I found a couple of things. What I learned from my articles was that ESL teachers are often discriminated against; even though they are over qualified and go above and beyond to please all their critiques. I have learned that they are great teachers, maybe even better than native speaking teachers-they just do things slightly differently. Since they tend to do things differently it is often looked as bad because it does not conform with the native speaker teaching style which is unfortunate. But hopefully by providing my findings from my study, and scholarly journal articles I can prove that concept wrong.

For my Final Project i wanted to answer the question why do college students choose to communicate through social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace. What I had come to find through my findings and research were multiple reasons. The first one was that it was a effective way to communicate-you can talk to multiple people at once who are from different locations. The second finding was that it was a great place to maintain relationships with friends, and family. In doing my research I can across a interesting finding in that men and women tend to communicate different and use Facebook for different reasons. Women use it to maintain relationships and are very affectionate in how they communicate, and men used it more as a dating tool or as a information resource for new partners/see how their friends are. I had done my research using these two methods; interviews, and surveys. I choose to interview 3 males and 3 females to see if there was a difference between each sex. Then I also made sure that each male and female category had at least one light user, and one heavy user to see if there was a correlation between using Facebook heavily or not, and see any patterns of motivation for college students who tended to use Facebook. Some of the limitations that I had come across was that the primary sex for my survey takers were female because most of the men who were enrolled in the class were either not there or choose not to part-take in my survey.

The other limitation is that the demographic of are area could have affected the data since we live in the center of the creation of lot of technologies; Silicon Valley. I would like to further my research by finding out what motivate college students to use Facebook-besides communication and maintaining relationships with others. I think that it is one of the main factors, but I believe there to be many others-like checking up on a ex, or creating an identity. Overall what I had mainly found was that social network sites are used by college student to effectively communicate with others, and maintain relationships.
